Product Description

Worshiping with the Psalms (psalter)

by Matthew Bassford

What better way to study the Psalms than by singing them?

The new psalter, Worshiping with the Psalms, uses a time-honored way to absorb the content of the Psalms by putting them to rhyme and meter. Singing the Psalms is then possible for everyone, just like the original purpose of a psalm!

Each psalm is paraphrased and paired with a well-known tune. The psalter and its accompanying products make studying the Psalms easy and engaging for personal devotion, homeschool classes, Bible classes, or in the church assembly.

PowerPoint Slide Deck and Companion Text booklet is also available to aid the uses of the psalter.

Matt has done an excellent work with this publication. I intend on using many of his lyric settings in worship in the future.

    Worshiping with the Psalms

My family and I really enjoyed the book Worshiping with the Psalms! The book had all the psalms written and matched with a familiar tune. The tune helped us sing the psalms. Singing the psalms is another way we can study the scriptures and put them in our heart!

    Worshiping with the Psalms

Posted by Randall Bailey on Aug. 22, 2022

I published a book last October called "Improving your Prayer Life through a Study of the Psalter." That work was the result of years of teaching Sunday School classes and College Classes (undergraduate/graduate) regarding how the psalmists viewed themselves interacting with God in prayer and singing as opposed to how we seem to view ourselves doing the same thing. I often argued that we prayed and sang more like John Calvin than we did the psalmists. Among my specific complaints was that the psalms had about 50% of psalms that questioned, challenged, argued with, and complained/lamented to God about their problems, whereas we had only joyful, happy, etc., songs. I argued that the psalmists seemed to believe their prayers/songs mattered and they could change God's mind. I often argued that we should pray/sing more like the psalmists, and noted that several denominations used only the Psalter as their songbook, and asked why don't we sing the pslams more. So I was thrilled to see that Brother Bassford had done it! I have ordered the book and showed it to several of our song leaders. I plan to introduce it the next time I teach a psalms class at Faulkner University, or any other university, or church Sunday School class. In my view, the Lord's Church has needed something like this for a very long time.

We have been singing through this book. Doing this has given me a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Psalms. Brother Bassford's work is a wonderful gift to us all.

    Excellent Resource, Easy to Use!

Posted by Stephen Rouse on Jun. 25, 2022

I've been hoping for something like this for a long time! Being able to sing all 150 Psalms to familiar tunes makes it so easy to use with a Bible class or home devotional, without having to learn all new music. Matt has done an excellent job of crafting the words of each Psalm into an easily singable format, which helps make them more memorable--just like they are intended to be. I hope this resource will help God's people to use the Psalms even more in personal and public worship!
