2019 Truth Lectures Speaker James Stephen Wolfgang

James Stephen Wolfgang was born December 8, 1948, in Indianapolis, to James H. Wolfgang (1922–2015) and Jean Wolfgang. Steve’s father and grandfather were elders in several Indianapolis congregations for more than fifty years. Steve graduated from Florida College, where he met his wife, Bette (Ashworth). They married in 1969 and have two married daughters, Lesley (Jackson) and Lindsay (Mast), and three grandchildren. Steve has preached in Marion, IN; Atlanta, GA; Franklin, TN; Louisville, KY; Danville, KY; and Downers Grove, IL (2008– ). Steve served as an elder at the Danville congregation from 1999 to 2008. He has preached the gospel in nearly forty states and a dozen countries overseas, primarily in Eastern Europe, Russia, China, and Australia. He and Bette have conducted weekend or week-long marriage seminars in churches and other venues in various places in several states and in Australia. Steve graduated from Butler University and earned an M.Div. at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as an M.A. in American Intellectual History from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. in the History of Science and Medicine from the University of Kentucky. Steve taught history at the University of Kentucky (1992– 2009). Over the years he has engaged in radio and television news broadcasting at CBS and NPR affiliates. Since 2010 Steve has been a Docent for the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago, conducting tours of the exhibits. He can be reached at wolf@uky.edu.
