Gus Nichols was invited to do the preaching in a meeting in Lamesa, Texas March 4-11, 1956.  W. T. Hamilton, the local preacher there at the time, said, "The sermons were recorded on tape, with no thought at first of having them printed. But before the meeting was over, it was evident that these sermons were a rare presentation of basic truths that need much emphasis today. It was felt that they deserve wider circulation and more permanent form than oral delivery to a single audience could give; hence this book."
