Whether you believe in Jesus or not, you have to admit he's a fascinating character. He must be, since people seem unable to ignore him. He has his devotees and his detractors, but few people are neutral about Jesus.

And yet, how much do people really know about Jesus? How much do you know? It only makes sense that whether we're going to follow him or denounce him, we ought to at least know what and whom we're talking about.

That's what this book is about: what we can (and, to some extent, can't) know about Jesus. Jesus isn't just a religious idea but a phenomenon of history. That means we can and should ask about him all of the historical questions we can think of and see which ones can and can't be answered. Fortunately, we're able to learn more about Jesus than most people think.
