In giving a reason for his hope, the well informed Christian must have an accurate knowledge of the Scriptures.  He will be even better prepared to support the truth if he also has some understanding of the ways in which men have departed from the Bible through the ages.  A study of church history is valuable for this purpose.

The style of this book is simple, and the technical aspects of scholarship have been kept within limits.  At the same time, however, the work is based upon sound study and research, and it is believed that all the facts as stated are in harmony with Scriptural and historical truth.  This study accordingly contains references to a sufficient variety of sources to enable an interested reader to make further investigations for himself.
