About the Author
Born in the early 20th century and raised in Africa by missionary parents, Sybil Belle Short was schooled by her mother until ready for high school in a British boarding school. At age 17, she sailed across the ocean to attend college, learning to adapt to the strange culture that is America. She married Bennie Lee Fudge, an Alabama preacher, and they raised a family of six children in North Alabama. She assisted him as he preached and established a Christian school and a publishing company. When he died, she returned to the continent of her birth to care for her elderly parents. When they died, she moved to California to live with a sister and work in an insurance company. Then she met and married Joe Dewhirst, and went to live in Ohio in a century-old farmhouse that she helped him remodel as they enjoyed their blended family of grown children. Nineteen years later he died, and she moved to Mississippi near another sister, to live out her days. Not in a rocking chair, but writing books, teaching Bible classes and learning to stay in touch with a large extended family through email and other technical marvels. But the greatest marvel is the courage, imagination, stamina and deep faith in God that sustained and guided her life from the beginning.
